What remains of the remains?: What used to be shipwrecks in the Aral Sea...

Have you ever wanted to walk across the bottom of the river, lake or ocean to see all the ships that have sunk?

The Aral Sea was once the world's fourth-largest saline body of water. It has been steadily shrinking since the 1960’s, after the rivers that fed it were diverted by Soviet Union irrigation projects. And now it's almost gone leaving a desert full of old shipwrecks.

Big Thompson outside of Estes Park: Fishing with Elk! ((Matthew LaGrange, Dan Scates, Big Thompson, Estes Park, Colorado, elk, buck, fly fishing, Texas))

A friend of mine sent me this.

This preacher from Texas, Matthew LaGrange, and his friend from Colorado, Dan Scates, went fishing on the Big Thompson outside of Estes Park in Colorado.  It was his first ever fly-fishing venture. A Denver Post staff photographer, Joe Amon, happened to be there and got the photos. One of the pictures made it to the front page of the Denver post.

I don’t think the idea of fly fishing is to catch a bulk elk but these guys managed to do it!

Tea Party Invitation: Hope, Arkansas

On the last full day I was in Arkansas this year (November 6th, 2011) I went to Hope, Arkansas, with my mother and grandmother. Mama wanted to stop at the Dairy Queen, so we did. When I was paying for the order I saw this business card which was purposely placed next to the cash register. I don't know yet whether I should have been surprised or not.

Sand bags in my driveway - getting ready for the deluge...

The bags are stacked waiting for the water that everyone says is coming. I am not so happy about it but no one in the government asked me either. Some of my staff have been out of their homes since last month so I am the lucky one in that way.

Admirals Club at DFW: Heading to Tokyo (Narita)

Getting ready to head back to Bangkok to sleep in my own bed again. Can't wait. Tired. I have been up since 0300 hrs for the drive from Prescott, Arkansas, to Dallas. And now the long haul in front of me. It will make for a short week at work. But then again, there is still the threat of flooding at my area in Bangkok. That crap isn't over yet!

I am really thankful for the ride this morning! I hope to be able to return the favor one day.
